With the motto of serving “the finest tempura at reasonable prices,” Tempura Tsunahachi is popular among overseas visitors for their Edomae-style tempura using fresh ingredients throughout the year. Expect to pay around 3,000 to 5,000 yen. Despite being located near Shinjuku Station's East Exit, the restaurant maintains a traditional Japanese atmosphere and has become a popular place to take selfies. For eating, a stool at the counter is highly recommended, so you can watch the seasoned chefs clean the fresh seafood procured each morning from the Tsukiji fish market, as well as prepare and serve the meals. Sake brewed from regions around Japan is available and is a great match with tempura. Also look for shochu, awamori and even wine, which has become a popular pairing with tempura in recent years.
