Shinjuku Golden Gai
A district of eateries and bars located in Tokyo’s Shinjuku area. No more than 6,600 square meters in size, Golden Gai is filled with short wooden row house-style buildings, into which are squeezed more than 200 bars, clubs and places to eat. Among the truly unique establishments located is the Bundan Bar (“Literary Bar”), known to be frequented by cultured people, including writers, editors, movie directors and actors. These circumstances have made Shinjuku Golden Gai a source of subculture and underground arts in Tokyo.
