Indulge in Authentic Korean Food Near Shinjuku Station
Sep 20, 2018
Have you heard of Haru★Chika Opening Dining Area (a.k.a. Haru Chika)? It’s a basement area filled with many different bars and restaurants that is directly accessible from Shinjuku Station. It’s located in the basement of the Odakyu HALC department store, only three minutes from Shinjuku Station. It’s open from 11AM until 12AM, so it’s the perfect spot to go for lunch, an afternoon drink or a drink before heading back home!
How to Get There
Although it is accessible from underground, it’s easier to stay above ground and head there. Head right when you exit from Shinjuku Station’s West Exit. The Odakyu Department Store should be on your right-hand side. Once you get close to Omoide Yokocho, you will see UNIQLO directly on your right and HALC and Bic Camera across the street on your left. Cross the street at the intersection to get to the entrance of Haru Chika, as seen in the photo below.
Start Drinking in the Afternoon and Enjoy Delicious Food!
Haru Chika has the same atmosphere as an Asian night market. There are many bars and restaurants, so you can enjoy a wide selection of foods and drinks. Restaurants serve Spanish food, abura soba (ramen without broth), okonomiyaki (Japanese-style savory pancakes), gyoza (fried dumplings), kushi katsu (deep fried skewers), sashimi, grilled chicken, Korean food and more.
Let’s Check Out Yan no Ie, a Korean Restaurants that Serves Home Cooked Dishes
We would like to introduce you to Yan no Ie, a Korean restaurant in Haru Chika. This is a very popular restaurant, with pictures of famous people lining the walls. This restaurant is very welcoming, so it’s a place that you can feel comfortable going to alone.
This time we ordered the galbi bibimbap and the yangnyeom chicken lunch special and kimchi chige soup. Bibimbap is a bowl of rice topped with various toppings that you mix yourself. Yan no Ie’s bibimbap included bean sprouts, garlic, meat, eggs and other condiments. The chicken that came with the lunch special was coated in a tasty sweet and spicy yangnyeom sauce, and is a dish that Korean people often eat. We got a lot of food at a reasonable price!
We’re very lucky to be able to get authentic Korean food so close to Shinjuku Station! We also recommend Yan no Ie’s famous seafood chijimi (Korean style pancakes) and cheese dak-galbi (a dish consisting of cheese and spicy chicken). It’s easy to grab a drink in Haru Chika after you’re finished too!
Stop By Haru Chika for a Good Time
We think that it is a shame that not many people know about this convenient area with many different and fun bars and restaurants. How about checking out Haru Chika next time you’re in Shinjuku?
