Three Food Halls Where You Can Casually Dine in Shinjuku

Aug 30, 2019

Food halls are a growing trend in the United States. Dubbed “food courts for adults”, you can find high-quality food and alcohol in these stylish dining halls. Though they may serve high-quality food, the pricing is reasonable and casual dress is fine! In this article, we will tell you about three food halls in Shinjuku.

Haru Chika Open Dining Area (Shinjuku Station West Exit Halc)

If you take a walk in the underground area of Shinjuku Station, you’ll come across Haru Chika Open Dining Area, a dining area in the Shinjuku West Exit Halc Department Store. The lights at the entrance will welcome you down into the M3 basement level, where a food hall filled with nine different restaurants each serving unique cuisine will appear right before your very eyes. The arrangement of the shops on this floor is similar to that of an alleyway you’d find in Southeast Asia. You can find Japanese “soul food” such as yakitori (grilled chicken), gyoza (dumplings) and okonomiyaki (savory pancakes) in this hall. Enjoy going from shop to shop and having a mini pub crawl! All of the restaurants are open from 11:00AM, so Haru Chika is a place where you can enjoy lunch as well.
