Be Sure to Try This Classic Shinjuku Café’s French Toast!
Nov 29, 2018
As Shinjuku is a so-called “battleground” for department stores, there are many cafés in the area that offer sweets to shoppers who want to take a break. In this article we would like to introduce you to Café Aaliya, a café with a 35-year history that is famous for its French toast.
How to Get to Café Aaliyah
Only a two-minute walk from Shinjuku Sancchome Station’s A1 Exit, the café is near Sekaido, a famous stationery shop in Shinjuku. Keep an eye out for Café Aaliyah’s orange flags. To enter the café, you need to go down the stairs connecting the outside to the basement. You’ll feel as if you’re entering a secret hideaway!
What to Order
At Café Aaliyah, you can try thick yet fluffy French toast at reasonable prices. There are tons of sauces and toppings to choose from, so you’ll have fun deciding what to order. If you’re sharing with friends or want to try a lot of toppings, then we recommend the Mixed French Toast. If you only want a small amount, then you can also order the half-size.
This time, we ordered the Cinnamon Fruit French toast. This dish comes with syrupy dried fruits stewed in tea and cinnamon. This fluffy French toast’s subdued sweetness lends to its refined taste.
In addition to French toast, there is a large selection of drinks as well. Alongside standards such as coffee and tea, there are also twelve different “horoscope teas”, original tea blends inspired by each zodiac sign. These teas are very popular with the customers.
Relax with Some Tasty French Toast
Visitors from overseas often go to this café, so there is an English menu available. Take a break from shopping or exploring Shinjuku and make the trip to this delightful café!
