Places to Go for Tourist Information
Odakyu Sightseeing Service Center (Shinjuku West)
There is a tourist information center outside of the Odakyu Shinjuku Station’s West Exit ticket gate. They provide not only tourist information, but also sell Romance Car tickets, various Freepasses that allow unlimited rides on certain trains, guided tours, and tickets to attractions in the area.
They can also keep your luggage for the day, or send it to an airport or hotel in Shinjuku Ward so your luggage will be waiting for you when you arrive. Staff that can speak English, Chinese and Korean work at this center, so don’t hesitate to ask them any questions!
*In order to prevent the spread of COVID-19, Odakyu Sightseeing Service Center (Shinjuku West) has been temporarily closed since April 7th, 2020.
Tourist Information Center Tokyo (Shinjuku Expressway Bus Terminal)
This Center is located on the third floor of the Shinjuku Expressway Bus Terminal. In addition to helpful staff, there are a lot of pamphlets that you can browse to decide where you would like to go next. As the SEBT is close to Shinjuku Station, this is a great place to go before exploring!

Where to Go When You Need Help
You may see buildings around town with the word KOBAN on them. This word is often translated as “Police Box”, and it is a small office when you can find police officers. If you are lost, have been robbed, lost something or have any other trouble, please consult with the officers at a nearby Koban.
Shinjuku Station East Exit Koban
This Koban is located on the first floor of the building connected to the station, and is accessible from outside of East Exit. This location is also often used a meeting place for friends to gather at before heading out for a night on the town.
Shinjuku Station West Exit Koban
This location is a bit of an oddity because it is located underground. When you exit from JR Shinjuku Station’s West Exit, you can find this Koban on your right.
Shinjuku Police Station
The Shinjuku Police Station is larger than a local Koban, and can offer assistance with more serious problems. The station is located near the “circle crosswalk” that has become a famous landmark since appearing in the hit anime movie “Your Name”.
Where to Use the Restroom
Visitors from overseas are often surprised with how clean Japanese public restrooms are! As there are a lot of department stores in Shinjuku, it is easy to find a restroom. However, the easy-to-find locations are frequently busy, and are inaccessible when the department store closes. If you suddenly find yourself in need of a restroom, the following spots may come in handy.
Shinjuku Station West Exit Parking Lot Restroom
This restroom is located underground and is near JR Shinjuku Station’s West Exit. There are also plenty of coin-operated lockers in this area. Not many people use this restroom, so it’s sure to be clean.
Odakyu Ace North Building Restroom
The Odakyu Ace North Building is an underground shopping mall located beneath JR Shinjuku Station. Look out for the European-inspired mural seen in the above picture to find this restroom.
Shinjuku East Exit Underground Passageway Public Restroom
On the underground passageway known as the Metro Promenade that goes from the Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line’s Shinjuku Station to Shinjuku Sancchome Station, there is a public restroom available.
Where to Go for a Smoke Break!
Please note that it is illegal to smoke outside of designated smoking areas in Japan. If you want to smoke, please head to one of the many smoking areas! We featured smoking areas around Shinjuku Station in one of our previous articles, Light Up in Shinjuku’s Designated Smoking Areas.
Shinjuku is a big city, so it’s best to confirm where indispensable facilities are before you head out. However, don’t be afraid to wander around and explore what this metropolis has to offer!
