Your accommodations are a big part of what makes your travel experience enjoyable or not. If you can’t take the time to recover from the day’s travels at your accommodations, then your entire trip will be thrown off. You may also feel a bit overwhelmed when trying to choose a place to stay, especially if you’ve never been to the area before. If you’re traveling on a budget, then the chic hostel UNPLAN Shinjuku (stylized with all capital letters) is a great place to stay. Even if you are a solo female traveler, you can also feel at ease when staying.

The Largest Hostel in the City

Unplan Shinjuku opened in March 2019 in a convenient location close to Odakyu Shinjuku Station. The name was chosen with the hopes that the hostel would be able to support travelers who come without a plan. The hostel is also close to the popular Shinjuku Golden-gai, so you can have fun exploring the city until late.

There are a total of 17 guestrooms, including nine private rooms for couples and families, that can hold a total of 193 guests, making it the largest hostel in the city. Guests are free to use the common room that is complete with a kitchen and can enjoy their time on the rooftop terrace. There is a bar and restaurant, Encounter by UNPLAN, in the basement that is open to the general public for lunch and dinner. The facilities and services available are the perfect support for your travels.

What is UNPLAN-style Hospitality?

There are three components to UNPLAN-style hospitality:

1. Unexpected encounters
When you stay at UNPLAN, you’re sure to meet new people that will help you make the most of your trip. There are events run by the staff that all guests have the chance to participate in. Have an excellent time making memories with new friends.

2. Friendliness
All of the reception staff can speak English and Japanese, and staff who can speak Korean and Chinese are also available. Make friends with people from different countries and learn more about different cultures through communicating with other guests.

3. Stylish & Clean
To improve the reputation that hostels have, this stylishly designed hostel has thoroughly cleaned rooms that are comfortable and will help you make great memories of your travels.

Let’s Check Out the Facilities!

There are many kinds of rooms to meet the needs of all types of customers. There is a mixed-gender dormitory, a female-only dormitory, private rooms with bunk beds, private rooms with double beds as well as private rooms with their own showers and toilets. Of course, security is the top priority – when guests check-in, they are given each passcode individually. Passcodes must be entered at several locations throughout the facility, and each code is only used for a limited time. The doors that can be opened are monitored, so you can be assured that this hostel has high security.

Enjoy Food from Many Different Countries

Encounter by UNPLAN is a bar and restaurant that is in the basement of the hostel. They offer mainly French and Italian dishes, although they have cuisine from other cultures as well and a selection of draft beer and cocktails. Professional bartenders will make the drinks right before your very eyes, and you also have the chance to try rare Japanese whiskey as well.

In order for everyone to be able to order from the menu without confusion, the appetizers, main dishes, and desserts are all available a la carte. The menu is in both English and Japanese, and you can order in either language as well. Even if you’re not a guest at the hostel, you can enjoy a meal at Encounter by UNPLAN!
