Art Supply Heaven-Sekaido Shinjuku Main Store

Sekaido opened in 1940, known for the familiar advertisement featuring a shocked Mona Lisa that reads “Even the Mona Lisa is shocked by the wide selection and low prices”. Located just 7 minutes away from Shinjuku Station Sekaido has 5 floors packed with art supplies. Sekaido’s wide selection includes everything from normal stationary, to frames and canvases, oil/water/acrylic paints, design tools, drafting supplies, sculpture materials, comic supplies, and more. Tokyo’s Time-honored Craft Store – Okadaya Shinjuku Main Store

Okadaya is located near Shinjuku station’s east exit and boasts almost 100 years or supplying handicraft and dressmaking supplies. Fans of the store claim ‘one visit to Shinjuku Okadaya and you’ll have everything you need’. Creatives of all kinds flock to Okadaya and you’ll find local and foreign fashion designers, stylists, crafts people and hobbyists inside!

The Shinjuku Main Store is split between 3 buildings; the fashion building, the fabric building and, the Alta fabric building. The fashion building has handicraft supplies, sewing machines, yarn, beads, stage and cosplay makeup and beyond.



The fabric buildings have a wide variety of textile fabric from everyday clothing to interior and specialty fabrics. Fabrics and ribbons and other things sold on rolls can be purchased from 10cm at 10cm intervals, and many beads and buttons are sold individually so you can buy only what you need. This kind of sustainable shopping is trending around the world but has been a feature of Okadaya since its inception.
