The Shinjuku Station area has many large stationery stores and unique stationery/zakka stores. If you are into stationery or need a gift for that person who’s hard to shop for, read through this article for great ideas on where to go.

Tools

Located in the LUMINE EST shopping complex at the Shinjuku Station East Exit, Tools is open till 22:00 and is said to be an artist’s convenience store. As it originally was a painting supply store, they sell, in addition to stationery, a variety of merchandise such as a large quantity of colored pencils, comic markers and fandom manga tools. The interior is well lit and the merchandise ordered neatly. You won’t know where the time went!

Smith

With a well-established reputation overseas as well, DELFONICS is a Japanese design stationery brand and stationery store for adults. Smith is their more casual shop. There are two Smith locations in Shinjuku, one conveniently connected directly to the station.




From items imported from overseas to specially designed bags and notebooks, Smith carries a variety of merchandise recommended for personal use and for gifts. The department store offers tax-free services, so why not pick up something sophisticated while shopping in Shinjuku?

Itoya

Ginza Itoya is a dedicated stationery store with a long history. They also have a location in the Odakyu Department Store at Shinjuku. The large selling floor is filled with excellent products and is very popular.




Also worth mentioning is that they provide name embossing, excellent for those who love stationery, whether for yourself or as a gift.

SEKAIDO

In a discussion of stationery stores in Shinjuku, SEKAIDO cannot be forgotten. The Shinjuku West Exit location can be reached in 3 minutes on foot from the exit and takes up an entire building. As the products are sold for less than the recommended retail price, the shop is popular among students.




You will find many often-used stationary and office goods here, as well as greeting cards, notebooks and zakka (sundry daily goods). They also make great gifts.

Hidden in an alley between high-rise buildings in Shinjuku is this stationery and zakka shop. Although small in size, 8ball is packed with unique merchandise, such as stationery imported from Europe, and functional and quality designed stationery from Japan. Also look for their in-house brand INFIEIGHT notebooks as well as various innovative and fun zakka. Pick up something you probably won’t see anywhere else and add some spice to life!
